Today I learned the word “waste” and many other expressions that I didn’t know before ,Now let me share them in turn.

1. At home, mothers often tell their children, “Don’t waste your food.”In the classroom, teachers often tell students not to waste your time; During an argument, one person might say to the other, “Don’t waste your breath.” Whether it’s food, time, or breath—*waste* means the loss of something valuable. Waste happens either because we use too much of a resource or because we don’t use it well.

2. We can use “waste” in arguments. If I’m unhappy with my husband, I might say:Don’t waste my time. If I’m really unhappy with him, I could say:You’re a waste of space!—but I should be careful when using that phrase.

3. If I study all day but make no progress, I can say:Well, today was a complete waste of time.

4. If someone is very sick or losing a lot of weight, you can say:You’re wasting away(消瘦)

5. If my husband drinks too much alcohol and can’t control his words or actions, I can tell him:You’re wasted(醉了)don’t drink so much.

6. I also learned some useful expressions:

The first one is:”Haste makes waste.” It means that if you hurry and rush while doing something, you might make mistakes. Fixing those mistakes could take even more time and effort. Instead, you should think carefully and do things right the first time to avoid wasting time.

- The second expression is “Waste not, want not(儉以防匱)。I try not to waste things I might need later. For example, I never throw away paper that’s only been used on one side—I carefully stack it in a pile. When a coworker asks, “Why don’t you throw these away? We have plenty of paper,” I reply, “ waste not ,want not。I can reuse them for things that only need one side,”

However, I sometimes make mistakes too, like buying new clothes even though I already have some in the closet. To follow “Waste not, want not,” I shouldn’t buy more clothes.
